The Worcester Public Library is excited to offer downloadable books, video and audio materials to our patrons. NetLibrary and OverDrive are two different companies that provide access to materials that can be downloaded to your computer or MP3 player. Coverage of materials and services is different for each company, so you might want to take a look at both before you choose what is right for you.
All you would need is a valid library card and access to the Internet (if logging on from home.) Please note that digital downloads can be enjoyed at home, at work, or when you travel, but are generally not for use on the computers in our library.
Plan 1. Netlibrary's eBooks and eAudiobooks NetLibrary eAudiobooks can be played on a wide range of desktop, laptop and portable devices. The collection is available to anyone with a Worcester Public Library card. Once downloaded, eAudiobooks can be transferred to a wide range of portable devices that support playback of secure or protected wma files. To go portable, transfer an eAudiobook to your portable device using Windows Media Player (version 9.0 or higher) software.

Plan 2. OverDrive's eBooks, Video and Audiobooks Choose from fiction, nonfiction, bestsellers and classics for adults, teens and children. Browse by subject or format. Music downloads are currently not available.
OverDrive materials include: -eBooks that use Adobe and MobiPocket format - Windows Media Audio (WMA) and MP3 Audiobooks that use OverDrive Media Console™ format -Videos that use OverDrive Media Console™ format

BookMuse The goal at BookMuse is to enhance the joy and satisfaction that comes from reading, musing on, and discussing good books. To accomplish this, they offer book group members and avid readers of all ages materials, support, and guidance for the reading and discussion of books, all in a one-stop, comprehensive web site. Reading Group Choices Reading Group Choices selects discussible books and suggests discussion topics for reading groups. Reading Group Guides An online community for reading groups,this website features browsable reading guides from all genres, a monthly newsletter, a daily blog and interviews with librarians and booksellers. Reading Resources NoveList Plus Listing over 150,000 fiction titles, over 4,000 custom created articles and lists and 50,000 readable nonfiction titles, NoveList Plus also contains Feature Articles, BookTalks, and Book Discussion Guides. NY Times Book Review Contains premier bestseller lists, reviews and essays from award-winning columnists and news from the publishing world. Search archives for reviews from 1981 to present. Literary Reference Center Containing detailed information on the most studied authors, LRC is a comprehensive database that combines information from over 1,000 books and monographs, major literary encyclopedias and reference works, hundreds of literary journals, and unique sources not available anywhere else. Nancy Pearl Author of Book Lust and Readers Advisory expert, Nancy Pearl's Book Lust Wiki offers several sources for book reviews, including her own. Join the community and share your own reviews and recommendations as well as author interviews and photos. Overbooked A great source for title suggestions covering several genres, author information and more. As of February 2009 the site is being restructured and improved, so be patient! The Romance Reader This site professes to be "the only Internet site offering over 7,000 candid reviews of current romantic fiction. " Romance Reader is perfect for the serious romance novel enthusiast, offering features, columns, romance author interviews, reader commentary and reader feedback. Stop, You're Killing Me! A a resource for lovers of mystery, crime, thriller, spy, and suspense books. Lists over 2,700 authors, with chronological lists of over 30,000 books, both series and non-series. Fantastic Fiction A great site for finding out the newest titles in several genres, Fantastic Fiction also lists the top 100 books and 250 most popular authors. Best feature is a series search by single or multiple authors. Searchable by year for award winners and author information.
